SQL Server Samples Readme. Download AdventureWorksDW2012 Data File from Samples. Readme for AdventureWorksDW2012 Multidimensional Databases. This sample contains projects used to deploy an Analysis Services multidimensional database based on AdventureWorks sample data. There are two versions of this project for each of the enterprise. The cube database that you will create in this tutorial is a simplified version of the Analysis Services multidimensional model project that is part of the Adventure Works sample databases available for download on the codeplex site.

So after the installation of SQL Server2012 and searching for the sample database AdventureWorks I found that it containsonly the 'mdf' file to download.
This tip gives you the steps you need tofollow to install the sample database with only the data (mdf) file. SolutionFirst of all, download the AdventureWorks for SQL Server 2012 from this Microsoftlink:(Notice that the download onlycontains the mdf file). Attach Using SSMSI tried to attach the database using SQL Server Management Studio as follows:Right Click on Databases Attach and click Add. select the AdventureWorksmdf file. I am trying attaching AdventureWorksDW database to SSMS 2012,but unsuccessful, it it throwing error everytime. I have googled to find a solution and has tried few things, as listed:. i have used the file named AdventureWorksDW2012Data.mdf to attach. Started the SSMS 2012 with Run as Administrator. Removed the log file while attaching, so that SSMS can generate its own log fileERROR msg:An exception occurred while executing a Transact-SQL statement or batch. (Microsoft.SqlServer.ConnectionInfo)-The header for file 'C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL11.MSSQLSERVERMSSQLDATAAdventureWorksDW2012Data.mdf' is not a valid database file header.
The FILE SIZE property is incorrect. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 5172)Please help me to attach the file.
